Doug Lee | Wildlife Photography
Doug Lee spent 41 years (19 of those at Rapport) of his life as a news photographer, and in so doing has become one of South Africa’s most well known individuals within this particular industry. He retired at the beginning of 2009 in order to pursue his true passion, wildlife/nature photography. Lee started his career at the Rand Daily Mail in 1968 as a freelance photographer. In 1971 he joined the Sunday Express, followed by a position which he accepted at The Citizen in 1983. In 1990 he joined the team at Rapport where he remained until his retirement.
Sport photography has always been among his favourite categories, and he fondly remembers the days when photographers used scooters to race back from the sports field to the dark room in order to have the photos developed before the print deadline. However, Lee’s ultimate passion is nature photography, which he has decided to pursue and focus upon during his retirement years. The majority of his photographs have been, and will be taken in the Kgalagadi, Namibia as well as the Kruger Park.
